Energy Efficiency Week

This week is Energy Efficiency Week. I didn’t know that, but the SNP have published a paper on the subject, calling for the release of energy statistics and the creation of a national energy efficiency strategy.

Richard Lochhead MSP writes, “There is no doubt that energy efficiency is the missing link in the Scottish Government’s efforts to tackle climate change and tackle issues such as fuel poverty. Given that energy consumption is actually increasing and not decreasing, the Scottish Government is going to have to redouble its efforts to make Scotland energy efficient. Every citizen also has a responsibility to play a part in reducing energy consumption.”

Well, it's a start. But I have to raise a sceptical eyebrow when the SNP are also opposing the congestion charge. We can't only save energy when it's politically expedient to do so.

The SNP are sometimes guilty of failing to join up their thinking. Maybe it's a case of Lib-Dem-style chasing popular issues, without making sure of being consistent?

The SNP are about 90 percent there when it comes to environmental issues, but they need to look at how different policies inter-relate, and what the priorities are, before they have a coherent policy.

In my opinion the environment is the SNP's major weakness and it has cost them votes to the Greens.
