Stirling County?

According to a newsletter from Anne McGuire MP and Sylvia Jackson MSP, the new name for the reorganized Stirling constituency (which now covers the same area as Stirling Council) is ‘Stirling County’.

However I can’t find any references to this new name. Is it correct?

Chances are it was sent to an English printer who thought constituency was a really bad typo, and so being a helpful chap sorted it.

Hi Andrew,

Actually it was printed in Alloa, but looking at the small type it's interesting to see that the leaflet was "funded by the House of Commons Fees Office Incidental Expenses Provision and the Scottish Parliament Members Support Allowances". Mmm . . .

Perhaps it is referring to the division of Scottish constituencies into two categories: "Burgh" and "County" Constituencies. There is no substantive difference between the two, so far as I am aware, one being mainly urban, the other mainly rural. Perhaps the new Stirling seat is officially classified as a County Constituency? Is the Scottish Stirling seat (Jackson) also a County Constituency?

Stuart,

I think your explanation is probably correct and the leaflet writer just took it one stage further by saying "The current Stirling Westminster Constituency will change its name to Stirling County . ."

Does anyone know anything else about James McFarlane McDonald? Does he have a website or email address? I'd love to encourage him in his campaign, we need more 'normal' people to go out and make a difference!

I have to say that I have never heard of James McFarlane McDonald. Which party is standing for? Is he standing in Stirling?

I tried Google but I couldn't find anything.

Just wanted to ask about candidate James McFarlane McDonald. He is standing as an Independant candidate for the Stirling County Constituency. His flyers are all over the University, and because I'm still young and idealistic, they caught my eye. He's on a one-man mission to save stirling-- against the war, pro human rights, against council tax, against speed cameras being used as a source of revenue, against the closure of the royal infirmary, against identity cards, for cheaper housing, and against student loans. Unfortunatley, there is no environmental policy, but this guy is a normal guy, not a politician. Not sure if he's worth voting over the Greens, but we'll see.

Has anyone else heard of him? He doesn't seem to have a website or email. Just wanted to wish him luck. Although i don't agree 100% on his policies, its refresing to see a man going up against the world.

I've checked again and I can't find anything about him. Maybe the lack of organization indicates he may not be campaigning seriously?
