SNP website links down
The SNP website has been redesigned, not a huge makeover but it looks fine, a bit lighter in the general look, with a white background.
Unfortunately all the links to past news releases have now been broken! I have been through all the February and March links and none of them work, so presumably all the earlier ones are cut as well!
It should be easy to maintain old links while introducing a new system. It’s puzzling why this wasn’t done here.

Thank goodness! SNP headquarters have re-designed our website:
www.snp.org
The old one was, ahem, "problematic". It drove me flippin nuts. Not the content, but the, ahem, "idiosyncratic" design.
I will probably have to update my Scottish Nat... [Read More]

Phew.
Now I'm glad that I always used the "text-only" links, because for some reason that site is unchanged.

I am also wondering if the SNP newsfeed address has changed as well - assuming there still is one!

The site seems to work fine for me, although it is painfully slow, even on my 1meg broadband connection.
A little searching also revealed that the newsfeed is:
http://www2.snp.org/html/snpnews.xml
and it seems to provide recent information; I don't know if this is new or not, as I have never had occasion to look for it before.

I now see, however, that although the summary stories appear in the newsfeed, the links to the full stories do not work. Maybe someone needs to send an email to the webmaster to find out if a fix is underway.

Talking of SNP news, what has happened to the "SNP Today" free email service that I used to receive several times a week?
They contain the day's press releases, and other topical info like the Diary.
I think HQ are having some hiccups with this switchover. Perhaps we should contact the Webmaster. Could you do it Simon? You seem to know more about these things than I. I still haven't sussed out news feeds properly.

I wrote to Russell Horn (who is/was the SNP IT man) yesterday, with a copy to the webmaster (in case he is a different person) and Petter Murrell (Chief Executive).
No response as yet.

I've been on to Russell about another problem regarding the website and pages that have 'disappeared'. He got back pretty sharpish, he does know me, and seems there have been some technical problems but normal service should be resumed shortly. Watch that space.

Thanks Rob - and for confirming that Russell Horn is still doing the IT at HQ. I still haven't had any response, however.
